TOOWOOMBA youngster Michael Brown spent a couple of hours perfecting his golf swing on a makeshift golf course at Queens Park.
Michael was just one of the many Toowoomba children who spent yesterday afternoon playing nine holes of golf for the Toowoomba PCYC's Come and Try Golf Afternoon.
"I'm having fun," he told The Chronicle as he made his way over to the next hole.
He said he'd played golf before so he didn't find the sport too hard.
Toowoomba PCYC indigenous sport and recreation officer Dusty Wilson said the come and try day was held in conjunction with the 2013 Coca-Cola Queensland PGA Championships which tee off tomorrow.
"We're just trying to promote the sport and paint golf in a new light," he said.
"It's a sport you can play for life, not like contact sports where you can only play them for a couple of years.
"We're teaching them some of the old traditions as well."
Mr Wilson said the event was such a success the PCYC had plans to hold another.
"We're thinking of hold an urban golf event where we can shut off a street for an afternoon and play golf down it," he said.
After the event yesterday, Toowoomba Regional Council's Youth Connect program held a movie night.
For more serious golfers, a Junior and Open Golf Clinic at the Oakey Golf Club will be held today from 4pm to 6pm.
The City Golf Club will also be holding more golf-related events this week.
