ONTARIO, Calif. ? Joshua Smith scored 26 points to help No. 17 UCLA beat Cal State San Bernardino 80-72 on Sunday in the Bruins' lone exhibition game.
Reeves Nelson added 16 points and 10 rebounds, while Lazeric Jones and Travis Wear had 10 points each for the Bruins in the game at Citizens Business Bank Arena.
Cal State San Bernardino's Theron Laudermill scored 16 points, and D.J. Shumpert added 14.
UCLA led at halftime and extended its margin to 11 points early in the second half before the Coyotes rallied with a 12-0 run, capped by Shumpert's 3-pointer, to lead 57-56.
After a pair of free throws by Smith put UCLA ahead 58-57, the Coyotes got a 3-pointer from Johnny Bell to take a 60-58 lead.
The Bruins scored the next nine points to take a 67-60 lead and never trailed again.
With Pauley Pavilion under renovation, the Bruins are playing away from home all season. They open the regular season Friday against Loyola Marymount at the Los Angeles Sports Arena.
