First funerals for Newtown shooting victims

The first funerals of victims of the shootings in Newtown, Conn., were due to take place Monday, according to a list provided by the Connecticut Funeral Directors Association.

The service for student Noah Pozner, 6, the youngest of the victims at Sandy Hook Elementary School, is due to be held at the Abraham L. Green & Son Funeral Home at 1 p.m. ET, followed by burial in Monroe.

His twin sister, Arielle, who was assigned to a different classroom, survived the shooting.

The funeral of student Jack Pinto, 6, is due to be held at 1 p.m. ET at Honan Funeral Home, Newtown, followed by burial at Newtown Village Cemetery. The visitation and wake will be private, the funeral directors association said.

Residents of Newtown mourned lives lost over the weekend. Meanwhile, Newtown schools will reopen on Tuesday, although Sandy Hook Elementary, where the shooting took place, will be moved to another building. NBC's Anne Thompson reports.

The association also provided details of other funerals in the coming days.

The funeral of student Jessica Rekos, 6, will be held at St. Rose of Lima Roman Catholic Church, Newtown, at noon Tuesday. She will be buried at St. Rose Cemetery, Newtown. The visitation and wake will be private.

Her family said earlier in a statement that ?she was a creative, beautiful girl who loved playing with her little brothers, Travis and Shane.?

The funeral of teacher Victoria Soto is due to be held Wednesday at 10 a.m. at Lordship Community Church, Stratford. Burial will follow at Union Cemetery in Stratford.

Soto?s cousin Jim Wiltsie told the Wall Street Journal that she had tried to shield her first-graders from the bullets. "That is how she was found. Huddled with her children," Wiltsie said.

Seven-year-old student Daniel Barden?s funeral is due to be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Rose of Lima Church, followed by burial at St. Rose Cemetery.

A funeral mass for student Catherine Hubbard is due to be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Rose of Lima Church, followed by burial at St. Rose Cemetery.

Her parents, Jennifer and Matthew Hubbard, released a statement expressing gratitude to emergency responders and for the support of the community. ?We are greatly saddened by the loss of our beautiful daughter, Catherine Violet, and our thoughts and prayers are with the other families who have been affected by this tragedy,? they said.

The funeral directors association said the service for Dylan Hockley would be private, but said funeral arrangement were being looked after by Honan Funeral Home in Newtown.
