One of the perks of having a $55 million secluded mansion on an island is having the room to design and develop a perfect practice facility. Well, almost. Tiger Woods had been working on his putting at his Jupiter Island home on his exquisite practice grounds, trying to get back into tour shape by raising the speed of his greens to something resembling what he would expect at Firestone this week and Atlanta Athletic Club next week in the PGA Championship.
The downside of all that practice? Woods says it?s that he did it all on Bermuda grass ? a strain very different in behavior than the bentgrass that is all over Firestone. As a result, Woods says he is having difficulty acclimating to them and his putting has suffered this week as a result.
?I?m used to putting on Bermuda at home. I?ve got the greens fast, but it?s still Bermuda. This is bent,? Wood said after his Saturday round of 2-over 72.
Well, at least it?s not a gimp.
Woods says he is looking forward to getting to Atlanta for the PGA Championship, where AAC has Bermuda greens.
?I felt more comfortable when I was playing my practice round on Monday because that?s basically what we have at home. So looking forward to Atlanta in that regard,? he said.
Perhaps so, but the rough is expected to be deep and penal next week ? not good for Woods? poor driving accuracy. He ranks last in the field in that stat.
